Da Nang City in central Vietnam has led the “World’s Destinations on the Rise" category of the 2014 Travelers’ Choice Awards given by travel site TripAdvisor.
The city beat nine other destinations around the world to rank first, including Sihanoukville (Cambodia), Limassol (Cyprus), Ao Nang (Thailand), Bodrum City (Turkey), Naha (Japan), Hurghada (Egypt), Kazan (Russia), Manaus (Brazil), and Eilat (Israel) – listed in descending order.
The coastal city was also ranked highest in the “Asia’s Destinations on the Rise” category, followed by Cambodia’s Sihanoukville, Thailand’s Ao Nang, Japan’s Naha, the Republic of Maldives’ Male, Azerbaijan’s Baku, India’s Leh, Sri Lanka’s Kandy, Armenia’s Yerevan, and India’s Rishikesh.
“The port city of Da Nang is a beacon for foodies, who flock here to sample the famously fresh and bold flavors of Central Vietnamese cuisine,” TripAdvisor wrote about Da Nang. “Taste your way through the streets on a walking or biking culinary tour. Work off those bowls of spicy noodle soup with an exploration of the caves and grottos of the Marble Mountains.”
“Be sure to time your nighttime stroll so you pass the Dragon Bridge when its 'head' breathes fire over the River Han,” it added.
The travel site also recommends several destinations in the coastal city, namely Lady Buddha, Non Nuoc Beach, and Son Tra Mountain.
The 2014 Travelers’ Choice Awards also features other categories that honor leaders of numerous aspects in the tourism industry around the world such as “Hotels,” “All-Inclusive Resorts,” “Exceptional Service Hotels,” “Destinations,” “Beaches,” “Islands,” “Attractions,” and “Restaurants.”
The awards are given based on the year-on-year rise in positive reviews provided on the website by members of the public.
Earlier in July, Cua Dai Beach in Hoi An City, located in the central province of Quang Nam, and Non Nuoc Beach in Da Nang City were included in the “Top 25 Best Beaches in Asia” category of the awards.
The two Vietnamese beaches won the award together with other beautiful beaches, including Agonda Beach in India, Secret Lagoon Beach in the Philippines, Nai Harn Beach and Kata Noi Beach in Thailand, Nusa Dua Beach in Indonesia, Haeundae Beach in South Korea, and Yonaha Maehama Beach in Japan.
