A/ Highlights
1/ Mui Ne beach resort
Mui Ne, Vietnam's charming resort capital, with beautiful leafy gardens, small and quiet seaside street along with so green tall coconut trees; golden sunlights, blue sky and the waves...

In comparison with other beaches in Vietnam, the seawater clarity of Mui Ne beach  is just average. Most tourists tend to swim in the resort swimming pools. There is no scuba diving or snorkeing to speak of too. But Mui Ne has the waves for people who love windsurfing.

Not far from Mui Ne resort, there are beautiful white sand dunes, lotus lake and fairy spring and "little Sahara desert". Many Vietnamese professional photographers come here to look for the art. As a normal tourist, most travellers enjoy sliding down from the peaks of sand dunes  when sitting on thin plastic boards. And as the young couples, its the place to take wedding photos. Some Vietnam famous film scenes were taken here too.

While Mui Ne sees a lot of tourists, its still a quiet lovely town with a very lively fishing village in early morning where oxcart is used to transport seafood!

Now come to tall green coconut trees with deep blue sky

2/ Tien Thanh - Ke Ga beach
Want to leave the crowded Mui Ne resort and enjoy the beach in its natural beauty. Well, Tien Thanh - Ke Ga beach, Ham Thuan Nam district of Binh Thuan province is a good choice.

Tien Thanh - Ke Ga has many white long sandy beaches with clear seawater, some fishing villages and the small leafy road running along dense casuarina equisetifolia forest . On the West are the low hills and sand dunes where you can see many oxen looking for food.

Tien Thanh - Ke Ga beach is about 25km from the South of Mui Ne. There are just some deluxe resorts along the beach.

3/ Co Thach beach
Lonely Planet 2011 just focused on Mui Ne resort of Binh Thuan province. For many years, a lot of guide books written by the West, havent mentioned (or havent known) the beauty of Co Thach beach yet.

Co Thach beach has been still trapped between Mui Ne resort and Nha Trang beach city. Its about 120km from Mui Ne to the North.

So why We should come to Co Thach?

Well, Co Thach translate into English is Ancient stone. Yes, the beach with clear seawater around the year and a lot of stones in many sizes and colours. In fact Vietnamese people call it a 7-colour stone beach.
While weekend sees many local tourists. During weekday, Co Thach is a different world. Maybe you will be the only foreign traveller here in weekday.

4/ Cu Lao Cau island
Cu Lao Cau island is a hidden world to not only Lonely Planet but also many Vietnamese tourists!

Its in Tuy Phong district of Binh Thuan province, about 120km from Mui Ne resort.

The seawater clarity is excellent! And while there are just only two families staying on the island for about 6 months per year, its really a tropical beach paradise. There are no big trees on this small island but there are a lot of beautiful large stones along the beach for tourists like taking photo

Love watching coral reef. Cu Lao cau island is one of the best choices in Vietnam too.

B/ Mui Ne map and orientation
Mui Ne belongs to Binh Thuan province which is the Vietnam's dragon fruit capital.

Mui Ne is 210km from the North of Sai Gon and is 240km from the South of Nha Trang beach city

Nguyen Dinh Chieu connecting to Huynh Thuc Khang is the 2-line main street running along the curve of the Mui Ne beach. Most resorts, restaurants, tourist agencies, open bus operators are locatted along Nguyen Dinh Chieu street.

C/ Mui Ne windsurfing
Mui Ne is fast becoming known as kiteboarding and windsurfing capitol of Vietnam.

Mui Ne enjoys one of the strongest and most consistent shore winds in South East Asia from late October to April, with an average of 225 days per year of wind over 12 knots. The resort area of Mui Ne bay is probably the most relaxing and friendly spot in Vietnam.

The first PWA Vietnam Grand Slam was held in Mui Ne in 2011

E/ Mui Ne restaurants and bars
There are many restaurants serving Vietnamese, Western and Indian dishes. These restarants aim at foreign travellers only. Look for the restaurant for local Vietnamese is quite difficult.

Mui Ne has just a few bars. And most of the bars are really quiet. Some bars offer live music. On general view, Mui Ne is a sleepy resort. There is almost nothing to do at night in Mui Ne. If you seek for a dancing club, you have to go to Phan Thiet city which is about 22km from the South of Mui Ne.

Massage service is everywhere and the price is about 20USD/hour.

G/ Best time to visit Mui Ne beach, Co Thach beach, Cu Lao Cau island and Tien Thanh beach
March to May is best time. The weather is good with blue sky, golden sunlight and calm sea

Avoid to visit from September to November as it often has big rains and the beaches are not really nice as well as its almost impossible to go to Cu Lao Cau island. The blue colour of seawater become a little bit grey colour

June to August is in the middle: usually sunny but sometimes rainy

Getting to Co Thach beach
The easy way to get to Co Thach beach is take the bus Sai Gon - Nha Trang. Co Thach beach belongs to Tuy Phong district of Binh Thuan province. It is about 300km North of Sai Gon and 120km South of Nha Trang city. Ask the driver to let you get off at " Nga ba Lien Huong" of Tuy Phong district. From here, you need to take a motorbike or taxi to Co Thach beach (about 7km)

Or you can take the daily bus Mui Ne - Nha Trang and get off at "Nga ba Lien Huong"

Getting to Cu Lao Cau island
Take Sai Gon - Nha Trang bus and ask driver to let you get off at "Nga ba Phuoc The" which belongs to Tuy Phong district, Binh Thuan province. Then take a motorbike or taxi to "Cang ca Phuoc The" (Phuoc The boat station which is about 5km from "Nga ba Phuoc The"). From the boat station, a fishing boat will take about 45 minutes to Cu Lao Cau island (If fast boat, such as canoe, just only 10 minutes)

Fishing boat: Mr Huu - one of the person who stay on the island for many years (Mobile: 0122 791 7174). He offers:  Motorised boat to and back island with 2,500,000VND for up to 10 people (you can stay on island one or two nights. There is no charge for keeping the boat); basic accommodation on island with hammock or sleeping mat; meals (should order in advance)

Fishing boat: Mr. Ao (mobile: 0937 604 463) - 125USD (Or 2,500,000VND) for one motorised boat which accommodate to 10 people

Canoe: Mr Lap (Mobile: 0918 335 617) - 150USD (Or 3,000,000VND) for a canoe to and back island on same day. Discuss with Mr Lap to stay one night on the island without payment. The canoe can accommodate up to 12 people

Best time to visit: March to May. From June to August, its possible to travel to island but it sometimes rains and the beach is not good for a person who "hate" seasick. Avoid visiting the island from September to December. Check with the owner of fishing boat before departure

All the owners of fishing boat and canoe dont speak English. So ask someone for help. Or you can call me (if Im in Vietnam): 0908 403 374

Getting to Tien Thanh - Ke Ga beach
Motorbike
Tien Thanh - Ke Ga beach is about 25km from the South of Mui Ne.
Its easy to get to Tien Thanh - Ke Ga from Mui Ne by motorbike: From Mui Ne drive to Phan Thiet till you are almost out of the city, you will see a panel " Khu Du Lich Tien Thanh" on the left hand. Then there is one road, up and down, to Tien Thanh - Ke Ga beach.

Rent motorbike: 100,000VND/day. You have to pay more for gasoline

By bus: From Phan Thiet city, the bus number 6 runs to Tien Thanh - Ke Ga beach. Working hours: 5:30AM - 8:00PM

I/ My journey to Mui Ne fishing village and Tien Thanh - Ke Ga beach (Ham Thuan Nam district)

5:00AM, 18th May 2012, my sister knocked the door to call me: " Let's go to the Mui Ne fishing village" and a motorbike were rented to take both of us to the "morning of Mui Ne people". Yeah, Mui Ne wakes up firstly in fishing village and I did have a nice busy morning.

From Mui Ne resort of TheSinhTourist company, it took about 20 minutes to be in the fishing village. As We arrived, there were hundred of people gathered on the beach. Most of them were women wearing conical hats. They were vey busy buying fresh seafood from fishermen. They totally didnt pay attention at a stranger like me who ran everywhere to take photos.

Here and there, some fishermen paddled the basket boats from sea to shore. As they arrived, many people rushed to the basket boats to carry out the seafood. A lot of basket boats were then kept along the beach giving great oppotunities for people looking for the "art"

Fishes, crabs, shrimps, oysters... were everywhere, on bamboo baskets, on motorbikes and even on oxcart. Yes, local people used oxcart to transport seafood.

There was a truck offering gasoline for the fisnhing boats too. And nearby, simple breakfast with Vietnamese bread and coffee were sold.

What a lively fishing village! If my sister didnt give me a phone call, I would forget the time to go to Tien Thanh beach.

Fishing village is at the North of Mui Ne when Tien Thanh - Ke Ga beach is at the South. From fishing village, the motorbike went through Mui Ne, then Phan Thiet city and turned left to the road along Tien Thanh - Ke Ga beach.

I enjoyed driving very much as the road rarely saw transport vehicles and as its a little bit up down road. On the left many long sandy beaches with clear seawater running along dense casuarina equisetifolia forest and some fishing villages catched my eyes. On the right low hills and sand dunes with many oxen looking for food drawed my attention. I drove till the vast dragon fruit gardens, small rice fields and a beautiful lotus lake then We came back to Mui Ne. Its almost 1:00PM and We caught the bus to Sai Gon

Here comes the pictures

The motorbike was on up and down road along Tien Thanh - Ke Ga beach. Green trees, blue sky and coulourful flowers...

Out of the up and down road, the bike headed to a red dirt road with dragron fruit gardens at both sides and a lotus pond. Then drove back to Mui Ne

J/ My journey to Cu Lao Cau island and Co Thach beach
We left Mui Ne at 6:30AM, 17th May 2012, in a car with some packed food and drink. The car followed the beautiful seaside road where sometimes a lot of oxen cut it and the driver had to stop or moved very slowly.

After about 1-hour driving, We arrived in the white sand dunes and lotus lake where most tourists coming to Mui Ne surely want to visit. The white sand dunes and lotus lake were so beautiful for taking photos. I have been here many times but that morning looked at white sand dunes from the car I still felt :"How beautiful they were!".

From white sand dunes, the car entered the red dirt road along the beach. National highway was left behind. Now there were only blue sky, small short trees and one car with 6 people. How free it was! We drove to Phan Ri district where the National highway saw us again.

The car arrived in Phuoc The ward, Tuy Phong district which was about 120km from Mui Ne at around 8:45AM. Here was a lively fishing village with hundreds of  fishing boats at sea and a lot of basket boats along the bank. I spent 10 minutes taking photos, including 2 minutes running after an old lady carrying fishes by Vietnam bamboo basket.

Then a basket boat with a suntanned man came to the shore. Ah ha! This was the first time 6 of us had to play a game: keep balance when sitting in basket boat floating on seawater. Some of our girls screamed at the basket boat was far away the shore. What I thought was "My god, please not to be sunk. My camera would have problem". Well, just after 4 minutes, the basket boat approached the fishing boat. And another game came: one by one getting onboard while keeping the basket boat balanced.

The fishing boat departed. I enjoyed the scenery and felt so nice with cool wind. But my old sister started to feel seasick so she just kept doing nothing.
After almost 1-hour driving, the boat arrived in Cu Lao Cau island. We all had to jump off the boat to get on the island as the fishing boat couldnt come to the shore. The seawater was so clear that from the boat I could see to the bottom. The island was really quiet as there were only two families living here. We spent over 2 hours walking along the beach, sitting on the beautiful stones, taking photos and everybody just wanted to shout :"Ahhhhhhhh, so nice, so great. This was really a tropical island paradise!!!"

There were small trees and grass on the island. Its really hot to walk on the sand. We were thirsty so We came to one of two families for drinking. This family offered lunch for some Vietnamese tourists too. And they sometimes receive some guests staying overnight with them. The accomodation was basic hammocks, sandy floors and blue sky...
I really wanted to see sunset as it was told so beautiful but We had to leave for Co Thach beach. So I had to follow the group. Hope to come back someday!

The car took about 30 minutes to be in Co Thach beach. While everybody prepared lunch, I had free time to walk around. The seawater was clear and the beach with yellow sand were full of local tourists swimming. Here and there, a lot of kids were chasing each other. On my left hand there were many stones in different sizes and shapes. I liked the stones covered by so green mossess. Not far away, a lot of girls were collecting 7-colour gravels. On my right hand there were many bigger and taller stones. I climbed up to the top of a big stone and looked at the waves "hit" into the stones...

We had lunch with steamed chicken, fish soup, sweet sticky rice and some fruits in a seaside restaurant.

After lunch some girls took a nap on hammocks while I were visiting the Co Thach pagoda on the hill nearby. The way to pagoda was full of "burn" flamboyant flowers and many shops sold souvenir and some cool drinks and herbs. It was such a beautiful pagoda with big trees and many buddhas worshipped in the between of two or many stones/caves. On the top of the hill, it gave a great general view of Co Thach beach.

I wanted to enjoy Vinh Hao mud bath which was not far from Co Thach beach. But the sun went down. Its the time to go back to Mui Ne.

Phuoc The ward

At boat station and fishing village of Phuoc The ward where We got onboard basket boats and then fishing boat to Cu Lao Cau island

For the first time, We boarded basket boat... Ah ah...

Approached the fishing boat. "Hey, keep balance... Ohhh... One by one get onboard"

The fishing village was behind

The boat was on so blue water! My god. I loved it so much

And when some uf us enjoyed, laughed, my old sister began to feel seasick

And come with me to enjoy the perfect beauty of Cu Lao Cau island
