Conical hat market at night in Qui Nhon

VietNamNet Bridge – The market is about 30 km north of Qui Nhon city, Binh Dinh province and it opens from 3-4am. A special feature of the Go Gang market is that it opens from 3am and closes at about 4-5am. The second special point is that it only sells conical hats and materials to make conical hats.  The transactions take place under the lights of oil lamps. The market is not noisy or bustling as ordinary markets. After making 10-20 conical hats, local women take their products to the market.  Every day, a woman can make from 7-10 products and they sell them for VND10,000/unit ($0.5). This traditional job does not bring about high income but it is a good job during harvest time. At the conical hat market, the buyers and sellers seem to know each other very well. After sell conical hats, women buy materials right at the market to make new products. Go Gang conical hats are then transported to other regions and even to Laos and Cambodia. ...

Red-headed cranes return to Tram Chim National Park

25th April 2014 VietNamNet Bridge – Thirty red-headed cranes have returned to the Tram Chim National Park in the southern province of Dong Thap to “settle down” there, thanks to efforts to conserve the biodiversity. Thousands of birds flying in the blue sky over the green forests and rivers is the scene millions of travelers have witnessed when visiting the land of Dong Thap. The natural conditions there remain nearly primitive, with no human intervention. These are a part of the outcome of the biodiversity conservation project co-implemented by Coca-Cola and WWF (World Wildlife Fund) over the last several years. The water levels in the different areas of the national park have been adjusted in a reasonable way so as to preserve the biodiversity in environments with different conditions.  Special attention has been paid to develop co nang (Eleocharis atropurpurea), the main food source of red-headed cranes. The cranes are currently on the brink of e...
