Coldest spell of 2015 hits southern Vietnam

TuoiTreNews.vn - The southern region of Vietnam has gone through the coldest weather this year with the average temperature going down from 1-2 degrees Celsius, according to the southern hydrometeorology center. The lowest temperature was recorded at 18.5 degrees Celsius at Long Khanh District of Dong Nai Province. The temperature also went down to 19.5 degrees Celsius at Phuoc Long District in Binh Phuoc Province, 20.7 degrees Celsius in So Sao of Binh Duong Province, and 20.3 degrees in Bien Hoa City of Dong Nai. Similarly, the temperature in the Mekong Delta region had a slight reduction to 20.5 degrees Celsius in Moc Hoa District of Long An Province, 21 degrees in Cao Lanh of Dong Thap Province, and 21.2 degrees in My Tho of Tien Giang Province. In Ho Chi Minh City, the temperature at districts Tan Binh and Nha Be were from 21 – 21.7 degrees Celsius. Northern Vietnam to suffer chill as low as 6°C this week

TuoiTreNews.vn - Northern Vietnam will experience chilling weather this week as a cold snap entering in two days is predicted to cause temperatures to drop to as low as six degrees Celsius, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting. From Wednesday until the weekend, temperatures in northern provinces will decline by three to five degrees, and rain is expected at night and in the early mornings, the center said.

Typhoon Koppu likely to enter East Vietnam Sea next week

TuoiTreNews.vn - Typhoon Koppu is moving west from east off the Philippines and may enter the East Vietnam Sea on Monday, Vietnam’s National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said on Friday. The powerful tropical storm is expected to rip through the Philippines’ Luzon Island on Monday morning before reaching the East Vietnam Sea, the center said. 

Northern Vietnam braces for tropical storm Mujigae

ThanhNienNews.com - Vietnam has been put on alert for the approaching tropical storm Mujigae, which is expected to strike its northern region next Monday. Mujigae, the 4th storm in Vietnam’s East Sea this year, is causing rough seas and rains and moving toward its northern region at a speed of 20 kph, according to the National Hydro-meteorological Forecasting Center . It was located some 850 km east of Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) Island at 8 a.m. on Friday with wind speed of more than 75 kph.

Storm to hit Da Nang-Quang Ngai in central Vietnam today

TuoiTreNews.vn - A storm packing winds of up to 75km per hour is heading for central Vietnam and may hit the coast between Da Nang City and Quang Ngai Province this evening, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting. At 8:00 am on Monday, the storm was being centered about 140km east of the coast between Da Nang and Quang Ngai, carrying winds of 60-75kph, with gusts of up to 102kph. The storm is moving west at 15kph.

31,000 soldiers on standby to cope with floods in northern Vietnam

TuoiTreNews.vn - The Vietnamese military has put 31,000 soldiers on standby for activities to deal with floods that are spreading in northern Vietnam after  killing 17 people  in Quang Ninh Province, a senior official has said. Colonel Vu The Chien, deputy chief of the secretariat of the National Committee for Search and Rescue, made the statement during an online meeting on Thursday related to the floods. Accordingly, the Vietnam People’s Army has set up a plan to deploy about 31,000 soldiers and 860 vehicles to help authorities and residents in northern provinces to deal with the flooding that has been caused by prolonged heavy rain there.

Broiling heat of almost 41°C hits central Vietnam

Tuoitrenews.vn - Scorching weather is raging in both northern and central Vietnam, with temperatures reaching 40.8 degrees Celsius on Thursday, the National Center for Hydro-Metrological Forecasting reported on Friday. The two regions will continue to suffer from the baking weather for several days, possibly until next Monday, June 6, the center said.

Unusual fierce winds uproot 1,000 trees, claim 2 lives in Hanoi

ThanhNienNews.com, June 14, 2015 - Fierce winds uprooted around 1,000 trees in Hanoi on Saturday afternoon, killing two passers-by and injuring five others. The winds, coupled with rain and lighting, struck the capital city out of the blues  at 5 pm and lasted for around 30 minutes.

Storm Sinlaku likely to hit south-central Vietnam over weekend

After entering the East Sea on Friday morning, the depression that formed south of the Philippines has strengthened into a tropical storm and will likely hit south-central Vietnam late Saturday night, the Vietnamese national weather center has warned.
