500-year-old trees in southern Vietnam

VietNamNet Bridge – The southwestern region of Vietnam is home to ancient trees of over 500 years of age, which have been recognized as "Vietnam Heritage Trees".  This man, Mr. Chau Phi, 75, a resident in To Trung hamlet, Tri Ton commune, An Giang province) is the owner of a 600 year old tamarind tree. He said that seven generations of his family have taken care of this tamarind. The tree is now about 40 meters high and more than 15 adults can embrace its foot.  The old tamarind tree still yields fruits annually. Last August it was recognized as a "Vietnam Heritage Tree".     In An Giang province, there is a dipterocarps tree of over 700 years.    Local people set up an altar to worship at the ancient tree.
