Cold snap hits northern Vietnam; flash floods may impact central region

(Tuoitrenews) Cold snaps are affecting northern and central Vietnam, while flash floods and landslides may occur in the region from Ha Tinh to Phu Yen provinces, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting warned on Sunday.

 Consecutive cold fronts have hit northern provinces, with temperatures falling to 14 degrees Celsius in mountainous provinces. 
In Sa Pa Town, Lao Cai Province, temperatures have dropped as low as 11 degrees. 

This morning, the cold snap began to spread to the central region, bringing cooler weather and light rain.
From this morning, November 3, the Gulf of Tonkin has experienced rough seas and northeast winds of 50-61 kph, with gusts of up to 88 kph.
The cold weather will gradually cover the entire central region today.
Coastal areas in central and south-central regions will experience heavy rain and thunderstorms thanks to the front along with east winds.
The northern area of the East Vietnam Sea, including the Hoang Aa (Paracel) archipelago, will face northeast winds of up to 61 kph and gusts of 62-88 kph.
Due to heavy rains, many rivers in the region from the north-central province of Ha Tinh to the south-central province of Phu Yen are rising.
This may cause flashfloods and landslides in mountainous areas in the region, the center warned.
Meanwhile, the southern region is at the end of the rainy season, with fewer clouds in the morning and most showers and thunderstorms occurring in the afternoon and evening.
