TuoiTreNews.vn - Vietnamese people who reside overseas, their foreign spouses and children are likely to enjoy a free-visa policy when entering Vietnam, as quick completion has been urged for a draft decree on the visa waiver.
The Ministry of Public Security should speed up the preparation of the draft decree on scrapping visas for Vietnamese people residing overseas, and submit it to the government by August 15, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh requested Wednesday.
If the decree is finalized and takes effect, overseas Vietnamese will not have to apply for a visa when returning to their home country.
The foreign wife, husband or children of Vietnamese who reside in other countries, or of Vietnamese nationals who live in Vietnam, will also be eligible for the visa waiver, the deputy premier said.
Those who want to enjoy the policy must present papers proving that they are Vietnamese who reside outside the country.
If these papers are not available, the overseas agencies in charge of granting Vietnamese visas are responsible for verifying the Vietnamese origin of such individuals to consider their visa exemption applications.
The free-visa policy should create favorable conditions for Vietnamese who live overseas to return to Vietnam easily, Deputy Prime Minister Minh said, adding the Ministry of Justice should also work with its public security counterpart on the issue.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is led by the deputy premier, is tasked with collaborating with the public security ministry to ensure a quick and convenient process of granting the visa exemption for eligible people.
