TuoiTreNews.vn - A storm packing winds of up to 75km per hour is heading for central Vietnam and may hit the coast between Da Nang City and Quang Ngai Province this evening, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
At 8:00 am on Monday, the storm was being centered about 140km east of the coast between Da Nang and Quang Ngai, carrying winds of 60-75kph, with gusts of up to 102kph.
The storm is moving west at 15kph.
At 4:00 pm on Monday, it will be closing in on the Da Nang-Quang Ngai coast, with winds of the same strength.
The storm will strike the mainland at around 7:00 pm before weakening into a tropical depression and then a low-pressure system.
At 7:00 am on Tuesday, the storm will be located in southern Laos, with winds of less than 40kph.
This is the third storm that has formed in the East Vietnam Sea so far this year.
From this afternoon, the central coast between Quang Binh and Quang Ngai Provinces will experience winds of up to 61kph and maximum gusts of 88kph.
Due to the storm, the waters off the central coast from Quang Tri to Binh Dinh Provinces will be rough and have winds of up to 74kph and squalls of 75-102kph.
From now until Wednesday, mid-central provinces and the northern part of the Central Highlands region will have heavy rains, and the rainy weather will begin to spread to north-central provinces on Tuesday and then to the northern region one day later.
Because of the expected heavy rains, the water levels in many rivers in Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Nam and Binh Dinh will rise in a few days to come, the center warned.
Flashfloods and land subsidence may occur in low-lying and mountainous areas in these provinces, the center added.
