Da Nang airport to have multimillion-dollar terminal for 2017 regional leadership summit

TuoiTreNews.vn - The central city of Da Nang will build a special terminal for its international airport to timely supply service to tens of leaders gathering for a regional leadership summit in 2017.
The multimillion-dollar VIP terminal at Da Nang International Airport, covering 4,200 square meters, will be built to welcome VIP and diplomatic guests visiting the city to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit 2017, according to the central government’s decision, which was announced by the Ministry of Transport and Da Nang authorities on Saturday.

It is part of a VND12.7 trillion (US$552.55 million) plan for the development of Da Nang International Airport from now to 2020, with a vision to 2030.
Accordingly, the plan will help upgrade the capacity of the international airport to 11-13 million passengers per year, and 50,000 metric tons of cargo per annum in the next five years.
In the short term, the existing passenger terminal will be expanded to serve nine million passengers per year, while a new terminal for international visitors with a capacity of 2-4 million passengers annually will also be added.
The project will be launched next month to meet the deadline to promptly serve the high-level delegations of regional officials to attend the APEC Summit 2017 in Da Nang, Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Nhat said.
According to a report by the Airports Corporation of Vietnam, the number of passengers traveling through Da Nang International Airport has unceasingly increased at an average growth rate of 14 percent per year.
It is forecast that the number may top six million next year, nine million in 2020, and approximately 20 million in 2030.
